Much like many other girls I am constantly on the search for the perfect mascara. One that will make my eyelashes look long, defined and ultimately a bit fake looking! I have tried so many mascaras over the year from high street/drugstore to high end. One thing I will say is that drugstore brands have some pretty good mascaras on offer and if I had to only buy drugstore or high end for the rest of my life, for mascaras I would definitely say drugstore!
I thought I would share with you some of my all time favourite mascaras. These are mascaras that I really liked and repurchased (which for someone with a beauty obsession, is really saying something!). My Luscious Lashes post covered some of my favourite mascaras but I thought I would do another post solely on my top mascaras.
This is a great mascara and my favourite high end one. It really does give you the effect of wearing false lashes. It has a bristle brush rather than a plastic brush which many people prefer. Faux Cils mascara definitely adds volume, making your eyelashes look a lot thicker. If you apply too much of this your eyelashes can look a bit clumpy but I've got to admit I kinda like the spider eyes look. The only downfall of this mascara besides it high price point (£23.50) is that it dries up quicker than other mascaras I have tried. Oh and I love the packaging.
I had heard so many American Youtube beauty gurus rave about this mascara so when I went to the America years ago I headed straight to the drugstore to pick this up. I certainly wasn't disappointed and could see why so many people love this mascara. It has a really big chunky plastic wand which just seems to work amazingly well. It gives lift, volume and definition to the lashes. Perfect! Unfortunately it isn't available in the UK :( so I try to stock up on it whenever I visit the US.
I first tried this when I received a sample size of this free with a magazine. I was really really impressed by it. I hadn't tried any of Clinique's make up at the time so this was definitely a good product to start with. It adds volume to the lashes but also separates them, giving a nice dramatic effect. Again this one is a bristle brush rather than a plastic wand.
Ok so don't panic if you think the Cover Girl Lash Blast sounded amazing because we have a dupe here in the UK. Max Factor False Lash Effect comes in the same packaging and with the same chunky wand. I'm not sure if the formula is the same but everything else seems to be identical. No surprise then that I love this. Again it sorts so well to volumize and define giving big gorgeous lashes.
It claims to be the UK's No. 1 bestselling mascara and I can kinda see why. This really does give you that false eyelash effect. It lengthens and thickens my lashes like no other. If you want to see this mascara in action then head over to my review of it here. I love the unusual shaped wand as it helps separate lashes and the tip is great for getting your bottom lashes. The only thing that annoys me it that if can be a real pain to remove but for pretty lashes I'm willing to forgive this!
This mascara has a hint of colour designed to boost your eyes according to their colour. I have have hazel/brown eyes so the mascara has a hint of purple in it to bring out my natural eye colour. I'm not sure to what extent this actually works but their is definitely something about this mascara that I really really like. The hint of colour isn't noticeable at all so don't worry it certainly isn't a coloured mascara. The formula of this adds volume to the lashes and does really help to separate them. You can buy the normal none coloured version of this mascara but for some reason I like the Luminizer the best.
I am a big fan of No 7 mascaras but this one really stands out. It has a plastic wand which really helps to define and catch every last lash, add volume but also length. This mascara is enriched with nutrients which helps the condition of your lashes. This give a really gorgeous clump free look and it great for the lower lashes and smaller inner corner lashes.
Finally there is L'Oreal False Lash Mascara. The original Telescopic mascara was a huge hit but this one contains fibres to lengthen your own lashes. I love how long this makes my lashes look. The fibres really do add extra length on top of your own lashes. The small plastic wand is great for bottom lashes as well. This is definitely a mascara to try if you want long looking eyelashes.
I always tend to think I don't need volume but length to my lashes however looking over my favourites most of them are volumising mascaras. If I had to narrow it down even for I would say go for Benefits They're Real for a true false eyelash effect, L'Oreal False Lash Telescopic for length and Max Factor False Lash Effect for volume.
What is your all time favourite mascara?

I really wanna try the Benefit's They're Real mascara. I love their Bad Gal Lash one, though I prefer a thicker wand/bristles.

Hi Gillian!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I have to agree with you on the Benefit They're Real! I love this mascara! I also love L'oreal Million lashes! I think L'oreal does a really great job with their mascaras, usually comparable to high end mascaras.

The Benefit and YSL mascaras are amazing! I completely agree with you about the clumpiness of the YSL...I like to apply two coats of a lengthening mascara to my lashes first, then top it with one coat of the YSL...gives awesome drama to my lashes without looking too spider leg crazy! If I had to add one to your list it would be Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes! mascara...I love the volume it gives my lashes!
ReplyDeleteLoved this post :) You included two of my all time favourite - the No7 one and YSL Faux Cils. Think I will have to try out some of the others you mention now.
ReplyDeleteWould love to do this as a post on my blog and of course mention your blog, if that is okay!

ReplyDeleteThere is quite a lot of my mascara history on here; Clinique's High Impact was the first one I ever used and I loved it right up until Benefit's They're Real! came out, which I use every day and is the best mascara I have ever used!
