A few weeks ago it was my Mum's 50th Birthday and I decided to treat her to a spa day at Stobo Castle. Unaware when I booked it that it would be Mother's Day as well, it turned out to be a double treat!
Stobo Castle is a Scottish Castle (obviously!) nestled in amongst the beautiful Scottish border country side. We have been to Stobo Castle spa many times before and keep going back as it has such a relaxing and serene atmosphere. The scenery is truly breathtaking and makes you feel as if you have left all your problems and stress at home.
Stobo offer lots of different packages from residential stays, to full day pamper sessions and nice half day visits. Due to work and other commitments we decided to just go for a full day pamper package. It included two 55 minute treatments, lunch and full use of all the facilities.
What I like about Stobo is it really is a dedicated spa rather than a spa within a hotel. This means the facilities are fully geared to relaxing and pampering their visitors.
As soon as you walk in the door you instantly feel relaxed. We checked in and went through to the changing rooms to put on our white fluffy robes. Decked out in our attire for the day we sat in the atrium area which has the most beautiful tree in the centre with pretty lanterns. We sat here reading magazines until our first treatment.
My first treatment was a fully body massage. The therapists are nice and friendly and were chatting away when they found out I was learning beauty therapy at night. My massage was lovely and relaxing but also invigorating. The massage oil used left my skin feeling so silky and soft.
My mum had a luxury body wrap which involved exfoliation of the skin, application of a clay body mask, being wrapped up on a warm bed then having the clay removed and moisturiser massaged in to the body as well as a head massage. My mum felt pampered from head to toe.
After our treatments we headed to the dining room for some lunch. The first time we ever went to Stobo we felt a bit silly eating a three course lunch in our robes but you soon get used to it. The food was beautiful. Lentil soup, followed by duck breast in an orange sauce and a Bailey's torte to finish...perfect!
With our hunger fully satisfied we put on our swim suits and headed for the pool area. The pool area is amazing with an infinity pool that has a spectacular view out over the beautiful Scottish country side. There is also loungers that you can lie on whilst taking in the views. We also spent some time in the jacuzzi area which is so pretty with little twinkling lights. There is also an out door hot tub but we weren't quite brave enough to ditch our robes in the freezing Scottish weather whilst it was snowing!
Time for our next treatment and this time we both the Stobo Castle French Facial. I have to say this had to be the best facial I have ever had. My eye make up was removed, my skin was cleansed then exfoliated. I was given a facial massage which was beyond relaxing, I really was on the verge of falling asleep. Next a fruit face mask was applied and I was given a hand and foot massage whilst the mask worked its magic. Finally the mask was taken off and my skin was moisturised and eye cream applied. I felt so relaxed and my skin was so soft. My mum said her facial was lovely as well.
Finally we headed in to the sauna and various steam rooms for some extra relaxation. We left early evening and returned home having had a great day.
I loved Stobo Castle and would definitely recommend it if you are in need of some relaxation and pampering.
