This week I decided to try something different on the the nail front. I did an at home gel manicure. My best friend got me a UV lamp and gel polishes for my birthday a couple of years ago. Recently I decided to buy some new summer gel polishes, so when they arrrived I was dying to try them out.
The gel polish I use is called Bluesky and you can get them online. I got 5 colours for £22 on eBay. Out of the 5 I settled on Lilac Dust which is a gorgeous neon purple. So summery and bright and would look amazing with a tan! The pictures really don't capture the true colour of this polish. I have had lots of compliments on the colour already.
A DIY gel manicure is really easy to do at home. You simple apply a base coat and cure under the UV lamp for 2 minutes. You then apply a coat of the coloured polish and cure for a further 2 minutes. You can then apply however many coats you want to get the desired colour or opacity, curing for 2 minutes per coat. Finally you apply a thin layer of top coat and cure for a final 2 minutes.
What I love about gel manicures is once your nails have cured they are completely dry and smudge proof so there is no hanging about until it drys or not being able to touch anything. Once cured there is a sticky film left over the nails which you can remove using a finishing solution or some non-acetone nail polish remover.
I love the finish that gel manicures give. They leave the nails ultra glossy and chip free for over a week. This makes them perfect for going on holiday as you don't need to worry about them chipping at all.
Have you tried gel manicures before?
